Ed was contacted by Anne Keenan, a garden designer who was working on a project for Raymond Blanc’s garden in Oxford, Le Manoir Aux Quat’ Saisons. Jointly they came up with the design for this elegant bespoke oak garden gate with arched oak top rail and sweet chestnut and copper verticals. The painted steel hinges were hand-made by our local blacksmith to follow the curves.
Raymond was also heavily involved in the design. It was a pleasure to work on this project knowing that the gardens are open to the public and therefore would be enjoyed by many who walk the grounds.

The organic natural curves of the oak garden gate with the split chestnut spindles give this bespoke garden gate it’s unique look. All Ed Brooks Furniture gates are made from sustainably sourced hardwoods such as english oak and sweet chestnut, and we use traditional techniques to hand-make these crafted pieces, with mortice and tenon joints for strength and longevity.
Unfortunately, we didn’t deliver the gate and so we have still not walked the garden or seen the oak garden gate in all its glory.
