This project was our first staircase using our own sweet chestnut. The staircase was part of a family project of building a cottage in a local village. The central beam of the house was also sweet chestnut, which is a lovely timber to use in terms of the beauty within the grain. But practically it works very well and is relatively light in weight when compared to oak.
